Who is the KBC Developer Portal for?

The KBC Developer Portal has been created as a source of inspiration and integration for the managers and developers of small, medium sized and large enterprises. Business leaders, business developers and technical developers can be inspired by this portal to integrate KBC’s financial APIs into their applications. If you are interested in using our APIs or other integration methods to strengthen your business, contact us.

How can I become a Third-Party Provider (TPP)?

In order to be allowed to use the PSD2 services provided by KBC, you must have the appropriate licence as a requesting party (depending on the service you want to use). This licence can be obtained from the National Bank of Belgium (full description:
If you already have the required licence in another country, the passporting procedure should be followed.

What does AISP mean?

Account information service providers (AISPs) provide tools that allow companies and consumers to gain a consolidated picture of their financial situation. Thanks to PSD2, account information service providers can access the necessary financial information on behalf of their customers, operate efficiently and reach a broad audience.

What is a KBC Partnership Frame Agreement?

A Partnership Frame Agreement is the legal backbone that applies to all future collaborations between KBC and a partner. It contains basic but necessary legal arrangements. Certain collaborations also require a Partnership Specific Agreement. Such a Partnership Specific Agreement falls under – and therefore incorporates  – the Partnership Frame Agreement.  The guiding principles of the Partnership Frame Agreement are ‘partnership’ (the equality of the parties), ‘simplicity’ (no excess content) and ‘fit for purpose’. The Partnership Frame Agreement continues to be in force even if no Partnership Specific Agreement is in place for a period of time.

What is a sandbox and what does it do?

A sandbox – also called a working directory, test server or development server – is a testing environment that isolates untested code for independent evaluation, monitoring or testing. KBC offers a sandbox as a secure environment for developers to try some of the possible integration scenarios for their KBC APIs. A sandbox allows developers to test the functionality of their applications and the integrated KBC APIs before they go into production. It uses fictional data.

To use the sandbox, you need to register. More sandbox information is available in the KBC sandbox user guide. For further details on the sandbox registration and login process, go to the registration page.

What is an API?

API stands for Application Program Interface or Application Programming Interface. It is a set of commands, functions and procedures programmers can use when building software for a certain operating system. APIs allows programmers to use pre-defined functions to interact with the operating system. One application can use an API to make a standardised request to another application and get the other application to take the input, perform an operation and return standardised output back to the original application.

What do KBC APIs cost?

Accessing and using KBC APIs in a sandbox environment is always free. In a production environment, some APIs are free and others are subject to a competitive charge. Rates are pay-per-use or subscription-based depending on the type of API.  Contact us for more detailed information on pricing.

What is a QR code?

A QR code or Quick Response code is a two-dimensional barcode. The main difference between a normal, linear barcode and a QR code is that a QR code can trigger several types of actions when the code has been scanned. A QR code can also store far more information than a conventional barcode. It can therefore be branded far better for marketing purposes. QR codes are free and can be requested by anyone.

What is an API Gateway?

An API gateway is a server that acts as a single point of entry into a system. It operates as a conductor who organises the requests that are being processed by the microservices architecture in order to create a simplified experience for the user. It translates a client's many requests into just one request to reduce the number of round trips between the client and application.
